WAYS TO FEEL BETTER

*1* THE CUTEST CURE FOR STRESS Kids who petted their dogs while tackling a tough assignment had lower levels of the hormone cortisol according to a University of Florida study. Study author Darlene Kertes, Ph.D. explains, spending time with a pet can help when you are overwhelmed. *2* SQUAT TO FEEL STRONGER Andrea Mitchell, a New York City-based Pilates instructor says, "Squats empower you for the day". Squats strengthen the muscles you rely on to do everything. TRY THIS: Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, toes slightly turned-out, then squat, bring your hips back and down; keep your chest lifted and your abs engaged. Every morning work up to 50 to 100 squats. *3* TRICK YOUR WAY FIT To get in shape, you don't have to make sacrifices. Michelle Segar, Ph.D., director of the University of Michigan's Sport, Health and Activity Research and Policy Center explains, "There are an infinite number of ways to move your body, and all of them count. Do what you want to do, not what you think you should". Maybe, tag with the kids instead of the treadmill. *4* BUILD A SMARTER SALAD Some people make a simple salad at lunchtime. By 2 p.m., their blood sugar is really low. They are falling asleep. They grab a frappe or keep snacking until dinner. Toss some beans in your salad. Beans are packed with fiber and protein. Along with healthy fats, they can make you feel fuller longer.
