A FEW FAST PICK-ME-UPS

(1) LOW ENERGY Have a glass of water. According to scientists at the U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental medicine, even a slight dip in hydration levels can cause fatigue. Generally women require around 2.2 liters(about 4 16.9-oz bottles. Men usually require about 3 liters(6 bottles). (2) TAKE A POWER NAP In a study of four nap times- 5, 10, 20 and 30 min- the ones who napped for 10 had more energy 2 1/2 hours later. (3) WATCH A SITCOM Beverly Hills endocrinologist Eva Cwynar explains the "Laughing releases cells responsible for improved immune function". She further explains "These cells then have a domino effect on lots of other cells". This includes neurotransmitters responsible for energy and mood. (4) FEELING SAD Get or give a hug. It's not uncommon to feel a little down sometimes(Not major depression but sadness). Hugging releases oxytocin. Oxytocin is the feel-good hormone. It also decreases levels of the stress hormone cortisol. (5) MAKE A DONATION According to a University of British Columbia and Harvard Business School study, giving money to a good cause(right now, helping Texas out) makes us feel happier. It seems if a friend or neighbor is representing a charity, it will heighten those positive feelings if you pick that one. (6) PLAN A TRIP A Dutch study has shown that people experience more happiness before a vacation. This is possibly because they are anticipating a few days away from their hectic lives.
