Infant brains may be hurt by global pollution

UNICEF says pollution is putting millions of infants at risk of brain damage. According to current statistics, around 17 million infants may be at risk of damaged brain tissue and brain development. This is due to pollution. This is dangerous to infants because the first 1,000 days of life are especially important to brain development. A new report says 17 million infants are breathing in toxic air. Over 12 million of these infants, more than two-thirds, live in South Asia. They are exposed to pollution six times higher than recommended limits. The report states, particulates in pollution can damage brain tissue and impair cognitive development. This has the potential for lifelong consequences. One of the biggest threats to child health globally is air pollution. Reported by Manisha Ganguly, CNN
