What percentage of US adults suffer from mood or anxiety disorders?

Each year 9.5% of Americans experience mood disorders according to the National Institute of Mental Health. This category includes depression, dysthymic disorder and bipolar disorder. Severity, symptoms, and duration of the disorder is how depression is differentiated by normal mood changes. If symptoms persist for more than two weeks or if they significantly impair your normal activities, consult a doctor. Anxiety disorders are a separate category. 18.1% of US adults are affected by them.
