New Study Challenges Wine, Caffeine and Chocolate's Benefits For The Brain

A new study from the Global Council on Brain Health(GCBH) has found no links between wine, caffeine and chocolate's benefits and brain health. The report says to drink alcohol in moderation and only with meals. It is unclear, if there is any beneficial level of consumption for brain health. There was hardly any support for the idea that drinking coffee was a long-term positive for the brain. There has been published some research about the protective benefits of the antioxidants in tea and coffee. Alertness has been increased in short-term effects of caffeine consumption. The impact of tea and coffee has no consensus on whether they are beneficial or harmful for brain health. There is some research showing high consumption of cocoa flavanols can cut memory loss. The only problem is the amount of chocolate you would need to eat to positively impact the brain could be canceled out by the number of calories and sugar you consume. What you should eat is pretty much what you would expect. Better brain health, the council confirmed was a plant-based diet rich in green leafy vegetables and berries. Your brain health is harmed by a diet high in red meat, saturated fats, sugar and salt. Experts say to eat fish, even though some have a high mercury content. The benefits outweigh the risks because there is mounting evidence that omega-3 fatty acids in fish protect against neurodegenerative disorders.
