Donald Trump has been "judged" by a number of psychiatrists to have narcissistic personality disorder.
Question on Quaro: Donald Trump has been "judged" by a number of psychiatrists to have narcissistic personality disorder. Is it really possible to identify with certainty that someone has a mental problem without interviewing him personally? Answered by: Laura Windham Psychologist in Private "Yes, we all know unequivocally that he has a narcissistic personality disorder(which is a mental illness). He also has characteristics of an antisocial personality disorder(aka, sociopath). I have several colleagues who are now using footage of Trump to teach students what this mental illness actually looks like in real time instead of teaching from the DSM. Now, while we all know that he easily meets diagnostic criteria, we could not write a formal psychological report and conclude with a diagnosis spending time with him. We diagnose patients every day based on their behavior, how they interpret the world and their understanding of how they are perceived by others...among other things, of course. These diagnoses come from what we see externally so it's quite simple to diagnose Trump from afar. In fact, I'll take it a step further and suggest a blatant example in action only help to solidify the diagnosis. The vast majority of the time we never get the opportunity to see our patients interacting in the real world to assess their level of interpersonal functioning(unless they are high profile). We see what they present in the office; we hear what is said and listen for what is not said. We infer. We deduce. We use intuition and instinct. We use experience and clinical judgement. Any senior level clinician could typically pick up an axis ii personality structure within minutes. The study and diagnosis of personalities does not require formal personality assessments or projectives(in fact, they're rarely used anymore). Simply, it's witnessed. That a psychologist or psychiatrist cannot diagnose Trump is tantamount to arguing an oncologist doesn't know what carcinoma looks like when it's right in front of them. He is right in front of us. We all understand how ill he is. What we can't understand is how many people don't. NOTE: IF YOU DISAGREE WITH THIS, REMEMBER THIS IS SOMEONE ELSE'S ANSWER. PLEASE DO NOT POST ANY NEGATIVE REMARKS TO THE BLOGGER.
