What is the difference between borderline personality and complex post-traumatic-stress-disorder?

This question was answered on Quora by Jules, M Sc. Clinical and Health Psychology and Work Psychology, University of Fribourg "BPD belongs to the personality disorders, meaning people suffering from it use certain behavioral strategies to fulfill motives like love, acceptance, and security and so on. Symptoms of BPD are unstable relations and mood, impulsive behavior, self-damaging behavior can also be a symptom. PTSD is a disorder occurring after one(or more) traumatic life-events, like experienced violence, sexual abuse, nature catastrophes, accidents. Symptoms are flashbacks, the traumatic life-event sometimes even can't be remembered, the behavior of the person changes regarding the regulation of emotion, self-perception can change, dissociation is possible, people would feel insecure and threatened most of the time."
