WHAT ALCOHOL DOES TO YOUR BODY (Part 1)

1- GOES STRAIGHT TO YOUR HEAD Your first sip of alcohol races into your brain after 30 seconds. The chemicals and pathways that your brain cells use to send messages slows down. That throws off your balance, slows your reflexes and alters your mood. You start to be unable to think straight. You may not be able to recall events later because you will struggle to store things in long-term memory. 2- SHRINKS YOUR BRAIN Booze can affect how your brain looks and works if you drink heavily for a long time. Brain cells start to change and even get smaller. Your brain can shrink with too much alcohol. This has big effects on your ability to think, remember and learn things. Also, it can make it harder to control your movements and keep a steady body temperature. 3- HELP IN SLEEPING? Alcohol can make you drowsy by its slow-down effect on the brain. You will not sleep well, though. Through the night your body processes alcohol. It leaves you tossing and turning when the effects wear off. You do not get that good REM sleep that your body needs to feel restored. You are more likely to have nightmares and vivid dreams. Also, you will probably go to the bathroom more than usual. 4- STOMACH ACID The lining of the stomach is irritated by booze. This makes your digestive juices flow. You get nauseated and may throw up when enough acid and alcohol build up. Years of heavy drinking can cause ulcers. Ulcers are painful sores in your stomach. You won't feel hungry because of high levels of stomach juices. Long-term drinkers because of this reason often do not get all the nutrients they need. 5- HEARTBURN AND DIARRHEA Alcohol relaxes the muscle that keeps acid out of your esophagus(the tube that connects your mouth and stomach). This makes heartburn more likely. Your colon and small intestine get irritated. The normal speed that food moves through them is thrown off. Hard drinking can lead to diarrhea, which can be a long-term problem. 6- WHY YOU CONSTANTLY HAVE TO PEE Your kidneys do not make too much urine because your brain gives off a certain hormone that stops it from doing so. Your brain is told to hold off from this action when alcohol kicks in. You go more often and can become dehydrated. Your kidneys can become worn down from years of heavy drinking because of that extra workload and the toxic effect of alcohol. 7- ON THE WAY TO LIVER DISEASE The alcohol you drink is almost all broken down by your liver. It handles a lot of toxins over time in the process. Heavy drinking will make the organ fatty and builds up thicker, fibrous tissue. Liver cells don't get what they need because this limits blood flow. The liver get scars as they die off and stops working. This a disease called cirrhosis. 8- LEADS TO PANCREAS DAMAGE AND DIABETES This organ normally would make insulin and other chemicals that help your intestines break down food. This process is jammed up by drinking. The chemicals stay inside the pancreas and along with toxins, they cause inflammation in the organ. This can lead to serious damage. You won't be able to make insulin you need after years of heavy drinking. This leads to diabetes. You will be more likely to get pancreatic cancer.
