Mental Health System in America

Question: Why does there seem to be so many 'victims' of the mental health system, or at least so many people who are angry about it in some way? Kasey Mitchell, Outpatient Therapist answered on Quora "Because some mental illness(severe and profound) can leave people debilitated to the point of being unable to get their basic needs met(food shelter clothing meds, etc.) These people are very easily taken advantage of. Our mental health care in the U.S. is atrocious. We're expected to do more with less People have to use ERs for mental health emergencies due to lack of resources. Medicaid is constantly being cut as well as other budgets. Staff are overworked, underpaid and under appreciated despite often going through years of schooling and higher education to work in the mental health field. There are so many hoops to jump through just to get services and then you have to deal with insurances too. There are so many other countries doing a much better job of caring for those with mental illness. A lot of mental illness is sometimes first diagnosed in the ER or jail due to lack of resources or stigma attaches with getting treatment or people being told to "suck it up" or "get over it". Bottom line is there's a lot to be angry about in the mental health field and lots of areas for a person to be taken advantage of"
