Did you know these are or act like addictions?

(1) SMARTPHONES Is your favorite gadget turning you into a digital junkie? There may not be a lot of research yet, but scientist are studying this. (2) CAFFEINE Not an addiction, but try to stop having caffeine you may become very anxious for it and nursing a headache. (3) CHOCOLATE AND OTHER SWEETS Foods high in sugar, carbs and fats can affect your brain like drugs do. (4) SHOPPING If you buy things you really do not need, what you are really looking for might be dopamine. It is the feel-good-chemical for you brain. It means you may have anxiety or impulse-control problems. This addiction can lead to legal, financial and social problems. (5) GAMBLING About 8 million Americans have this problem. Whether you do this online or in person, the poker table or slot machines, your brain provides a rush with a dopamine that makes you happy. Too much betting can cause trouble with finances, your job and family life. (6) PLASTIC SURGERY Some people can't get enough. Many may have "body dysmorphic disorder". They are obsessed with defects only they can see. The same brain chemicals that play a role in addiction cause this problem. (7) TANNING Endorphins are the ultraviolet spectrum of sunlight that releases chemicals in your body. You will risk sunburns, blisters and skin cancer for these chemicals because they make you feel so good. Frequent outdoor and indoor tanners may have this problem. Other's may have obsessive-compulsive disorder or body dysmorphic disorder. (8) EXERCISE A good workout can help you get over addictions. That is, as long as you don't get hooked on this activity itself. Recovery can be sped up by exercise. This is because exercise helps the brain to learn. If you are ill or injured, you have to be able to say "no" to the endorphin-fueled runner's high. (9) SOCIAL MEDIA New studies show that 10% of social media users are really hooked. Your brain is affected the same way that cocaine does by the random pace of posts. By sharing details about your life with others, it creates a rush of positive feelings that leave you wanting more. (10) SEX Although it is not an official addiction, there is a condition called hypersexual disorder. Your brain may be wired like that of someone with a drug or gambling problem if you have this.
