PSEUDOBYLBAR AFFECT(PBA)

PseudoBylbar Affect(PBA) is a condition that causes uncontrollable crying and/or laughing. It happens suddenly and frequently. PBA can happen with a brain injury or certain neurologic conditions. Almost 2 million people in the U.S. with neuroligic conditions or traumatic brain injury have PBA. There are over 7 million people in the United States that have symptoms that may suggest PBA. The impact of an episode goes beyond crying and laughing. It can be frustrating because despite how it looks, you are not sad. Things are not as funny as they may seem. PBA symptoms can feel like yet another difficulty to deal with because they always happen as a result of another neurologic condition or brain injury. People with PBA say an episode can cause confusion, personal discouragement and embarrassment from the situation. Percent of people with common neurologic conditions who may suggest PseudoBylbar Affect: 48% TBI(Traumatic Brain Injury) 39% Alzheimer's Disease/Dementia 28% Stroke 46% MS(Multiple Sclerosis) 50% ALS(Lou Gehrig's Disease) 24% Parkison's Disease.
