HOW DO PSYCHOLOGISTS IDENTIFY WHICH PATIENTS ARE FAKING THEIR MENTAL ILLNESS?

Julie Gurner. Doctor of Psychology who works with tech companies answered on Quora. "I used to work in forensics-and this is called malingering",(faking). It is so easy to spot, it's ridiculous. Every mental illness follows rules...ways in which it typically operates. There are a few variations that people can have, but in general, symptoms present pretty much follow rules in how they present-and people violate them all the time". She gives an example. "I might ask someone who says they "see things" and are trying to fake schizophrenia, if they still see them when they close their eyes? They're usually slow to answer, sometimes they don't know...or they stumble... or give the wrong answer. Um, you would know, you would know quickly and there is a right answer. People who are faking tend to memorize symptoms.. but they don't know what the illness "doesn't" do and they can't account for all the possibilities of the question they might get."
