One study showed people who stroll in walking groups had lower resting heart rate, lower blood pressure, reduced cholesterol and more effective weight loss. THE MEMORY-BOOSTER WALK Your memory can be preserved by making walking a habit. Researchers followed 300 adults for 13 years. They found that their risk of memory problems was lowered by 50% by those who had walked six to nine miles a week. THE PHILOSOPHER'S WALK Walking provides not only deep thoughts, but also other brain perks. Adults slowed their age-related declines in brain function and improved their performance on cognitive tasks by walking forty minutes three times a week.
