R. Thomas Zoeller, Ph.D tells every woman he knows to avoid printed receipts. He went on to explain that chemicals that act like hormones in the body called endocrine disruptors may impact infertility and cause developmental defects. BPA is one of the most publicized. Manufacturers have started to remove it from food packaging and plastics. He warns woman to avoid printed receipts from the ATM, gas pump and cash register. These receipts are coated with BPA. The skin is made more porous from sanitizers, lotions and grease from fries. This allows BPA to get into the bloodstream much faster. Endocrine disruptors do pass through your skin quickly. Still, you need to limit your exposure. Whenever possible, choose email receipts. If not, try not to handle the receipt for long. R. Thomas Zoeller, Ph.d, Co-chair of the Endocrine Society's Global Task Force on Endocrine-Disrupting Chemicals and professor of biology at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst
