Research at Carnegie Mellon University asked a group of job seekers to try mindfulness. Mindfulness is simply focusing on sounds, sights, or sensations. After the group had a little practice, the parts of the brain that boost focus were communicating better. The same people months later had fewer inflammatory markers in their blood, lowering their risk for stress-fueled illnesses like diabetes and heart disease. This means, a mindful pause today might mean living more days in the future.
