10 Ways Your Home Could Be Toxic 1-5
(1) AIR FILTERS- People spend 80% of their time inside- where air may be even more polluted than outdoors. Newer homes are designed to be energy-efficient. Meaning there is not much ventilation, and irritants like dust mites, mold, and pet dander get sealed inside. This aggravates allergies and asthma. SUGGESTED: MERV 11 or 12 Disposable high energy filter for furnish and air conditioning system. Change filters every 3 months. (2) CARPETING-Wall-to-wall traps dust, pollen, and mold. After cleaning a spilled drink, it may not dry completely and could be a breeding ground for mold. SUGGESTED: Tiles The individual squares can be removed. (3) TAP WATER-Lead, chlorine, and pesticides can contaminate the stuff coming out of sink. SUGGESTED: Have water tested to see if you need water filters. (4) HOUSEHOLD CLEANERS-Many have artificial fragrances that can irritate lungs and worsen allergies and asthma. SUGGESTED: Natural multi-purpose cleansers. Apple cider vinegar distilled with water in a spray bottle instead of glass cleaner. Lemon can remove hard water stains. Baking soda is good for scrubbing pots.
